The Mafia Seeks a Summer Intern!

The Mafia is looking for another intern! This could be you (if you're in college and fabulously crafty)! Please send Carlybird an email with your resume and cover letter at carlygoss -at- yahoo -dot- com if you'd like to spend the summer semester working with the craftiest kids in Baltimore and get real, live college credit for it! Check out the tasks you'd be responsible for below.

The Charm City Craft Mafia seeks an ambitious student to join us as Mafia Intern! The two main responsibilities of this internship are to assist our members with studio work and, most importantly, to help us prepare for our spring 2010 craft show, Pile of Craft! The intern will work along side the Mafia communicating with vendors, performing organizational tasks and marketing, contacting sponsors, as well as carrying out day-of-show tasks including setting up tables, decorating, assisting vendors, making food runs, etc. This internship is a wonderful opportunity for an artist who is interested in community building, hosting events, and the indie craft community. You must be motivated, flexible and fun. You will see the inner workings of the Mafia and what it takes to put on the best indie craft show in Baltimore. You will have the chance to work with a group of 14 zany and talented artists whose work includes painting, drawing, sculpture, weaving, bookbinding, ceramics and much more. This opportunity begins as soon as possible and can last through the summer and even beyond, if we find the right candidate. Other tasks may include assistance with other art and craft shows, studio maintenance, etc.

The intern MUST be available to work the evening of June 25th and all day on June 26th 2010. Please do not apply if you cannot make yourself available on both of those days.

Send Carly an email now to apply! Resume and cover letter! Do it!

Looking forward to getting crafty with you!

Out Of Order - This Weekend at MD Art Place!

OUT OF ORDER
MAP’S DO-IT-YOURSELF BENEFIT EXHIBITION,
SILENT AUCTION AND PARTY!
APRIL 9, 2010

Saturday, April 9, 8 – 11pm

Maryland Art Place is thrilled to announce the return of Out of Order, the much-anticipated Do-It-Yourself spring benefit exhibition, silent auction and party!

A hugely popular Baltimore event, Out of Order is a one-night-only opportunity for collectors to acquire contemporary art at silent auction prices. Both emerging and experienced artists present their original work in a wide range of media with minimum bids set from $1 to $800. On event night, art makers and art lovers mix and mingle while enjoying the pleasures of music, food, wine and beer. Last year, a record-breaking 432 artists took part and hundreds of guests attended Out of Order.

Proceeds from the art sales are split 50/50 between MAP and the artist. Event revenue goes directly to support MAP’s programming throughout the year. This April, artists will have the chance to donate their unsold work to the Art Connection in the Capital Region (ACCR), a valuable organization that places donated works in the facilities of not-for-profit social service organizations. To learn more about ACCR’s role in promoting contemporary art while improving the lives of individuals, visit: www.artconnection-cr.org.

How to Get Tickets

Purchase Tickets Online

Current MAP Members must call to reserve their tickets. New or renewing members that call MAP to join by March 23 receive two complimentary tickets to the event (an $80 value)! No tickets are mailed; names of ticket holders are held at the door.
