The 8th Annual Transmodern Festival

The Transmodern Festival – voted “Baltimore’s Best Art Event” by the City Paper – returns April 28 – May 1, 2011. Sounds fun....but what is it, you ask? Four days of Avant Performance, Installation, Sound, Film, Mayhem, Ecstasy, and Radical Culture!
Electric Junkyard Gamelan

Transmodern is a festival of provocative works by cultural experimenters from Baltimore and the World. The artists of the 8th Annual Transmodern Festival defy traditional genres and embrace radical innovation through transmedia, clashes of organic vs. artificial intelligence, psychogeography, dislocation of consensus reality, real politic and collective cultural action.

The organizers promote/celebrate the diversity of experimental culture by highly representing artists from the following groups: women, ethnic minorities, gays and lesbians, the radical subculture.

The festival’s visionary approach to presenting new multi-disciplinary work continues to attract regional art lovers, local cultural mavens, occasional passers-by, critical acclaim, and on-going academic interest. For more information, click here.

Here, fishy fishy fishy....

Tonight you should go to Metro Gallery for the closing reception of Paper Fish, the show depicting the making of a shadow puppet music video for a song off Wye Oak's latest album, Civilian.

Pile of Craft and Holiday Heap veteran, Katherine Fahey, dazzles and special guests Anna & Elizabeth delight with their crankies and songs.

And if you miss it (or even if you don't), come out to the G-spot tomorrow night and see the Mafia's own Carly Goss (that's me!) singing songs along with Kathy, Anna & Elizabeth, et al, for The Same River Twice show, celebrating our dear Jones Falls.
