Thank You!

From the clothing designers and the toy makers, the librarians (not to mention the smallest of patrons), the teachers, and the parents who love and cherish handmade gifts for their children, a huge thank you. It has only been just over a month since I first found out about the CPSIA, and in that month, parents and makers and professionals came out together in droves to voice concerns about this paralyzing legislation. And the CPSC heard us. Congress and the senate and the president all heard us.

We were granted a stay of a year, and it is my hope that in that year congress will clarify requirements, examine redundancies, exempt materials that do not inherently contain lead, and take into consideration the concerns of responsible business owners.

My husband and I were totally prepared to stock up on all our favorite handmade kids' clothes and toys for the next 10 years. You have no idea how relieved I am that we don't have to figure out how to store 10 years worth of Pepita's future wardrobe and playthings. Our house is like 12 feet wide. Not to mention, I made my husband a bunch of shirts this winter, and it wasn't nearly as fun as sewing for kids!
